How to create an eco-friendly matt finish on your floor

Posted by Cameron Flannagan on

With today's focus on sustainable and environmentally friendly products, its good to have an awareness of the waterborne finishes that are available. We come to you today with a product that ensures the best possible air quality coming from your Wooden floor. The simple fact of having a wooden floor increases the air quality in a home. Where this can be increased is the finish that is applied to the wooden floor. With clients not fully aware of the VOC and other emissions that are released into the air from a floor here is some information to give an understanding of what products are out there on the market. There are solvent-based finishes that give off these emissions and leave them in the air. Here is where Pallmann has their end-user client’s best interest at heart with this Zero VOC finish to tackle this air emission.

The Pall X Zero Lacquer is a water-based VOC-free (Volatile Organic Compounds) finish that gives a special-matt appearance. It’s the only Lacquer that offers this finish sheen. Predominantly used on commercial floors due to its high mechanical and chemical wear resistance it can also be used on residential where there are high levels of foot traffic. It is the strongest lacquer from the Pall-X range making it the go-to finish for a floor that will see heavy use.

The 2-part Lacquer is a solvent-free finish based on polyurethane and is suitable as a substitute material for high solvent content materials used for surface treatment. Being fully cured it meets the requirements of very low emission products. It is a modern, solvent-free and extremely low emission floor finish.

From a previous blog that Terry Guilford wrote back in 2019 on The Eco Revolution  of finishes an advantage to this lacquer is that based on the paints directive quoted. “Directive 2004/42/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 210 April 2004 on the limitation of emissions of volatile organic compounds due to the use of organic solvents in decorative paints and varnishes and vehicle refinishing products and amending direct 1999/13/EC (“the paints Directive”) aims to prevent the negative environmental effects of emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOC) from decorative paints and vehicle refinishing products.

This means that due to the depletion of the ozone layer and its subsequent climate and health consequences, the EU decided to restrict the use of solvents in all paints and finishes starting in 2007 (allowing time for manufacturers to react), with the VOC limits becoming tighter in 2010.

Pallmann Pall-X Zero is a 2 Component wood floor lacquer that is super tough. One of the toughest lacquers on the market from Pallmann that has a special matt finish, being water-based, solvent-free with zero voc’s, it makes it great for the environment ensuring optimum indoor air quality. With highly mechanical and chemical wear resistance. This product is great to be used in high foot traffic areas. Whether it’s in either domestic or commercial this product is highly recommended by us as ex-contractors and our customers currently using it.
